Eliminating Bandwidth Bottlenecks
AOptix lasercom offers significant benefits over RF links for ultra-high bandwidth point-to-point applications. These include an order of magnitude higher bandwidth with the capability of 10 Gbps over distances of 5 km.
One of the first applications for this technology will be for the wireless transmission of high-definition film and video production on remote location shoots.
Today, everybody wants high-definition (HD) television. And while the infrastructure to receive HDTV has been building for years, the broadcast production side is hitting a bottleneck with RF wireless bandwidths. Gorgeous uncompressed location shots from multiple cameras consume massive amounts of bandwidth. Long fiber-optic cable runs aren’t always feasible at all camera locations and remote sites. RF spectrum and licensing limitations cause network congestion that requires compression, introducing unwanted latency.
With the AOptix lasercom system, unique Adaptive Optics technology enables each optical link to support multiple channels of uncompressed or compressed HDTV feeds—eliminating the complexity of duplicate back-up feeds. This approach can simplify deployment, slash set-up time, lower power generation requirements and reduce hardware costs. It also offers new options in wireless network configurations that would have been too slow and costly before.
With a single-point solution from camera feed to production truck, AOptix commercial lasercom systems enable you to:
- Replace multiple microwave paths with single optical link
- Reduce the need for additional frequencies and the expense, coordination and interference they can introduce
- Lower manpower needs
